Marine police seized 500 logs of various types and sizes and an excavator at a sawmill near Sungai Bintangor in Bintangor yesterday.
The seized items were worth RM2.01 million. The logs were suspected to have been felled illegally as they were not recorded in the list of removal pass of the State Forestry Department.
When marine police personnel pounced at 3.45am, a local and two foreigners were said to be guarding the logs.
Marine Police Region 5 Commander ACP Kalai Chelvan Nadarajan, in a press statement yesterday, said the seized logs were now with the Sarikei Forestry Department.
He added that the marine police welcomed public tip-offs and cooperation from government agencies in order to halt illegal activities in the state.
