Two suspects in #BillKayong probe have been charged

MIRI: Two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of PKR Miri branch secretary Bill Kayong were charged in the Magistrate’s Court, here, this morning.

The first suspect, Mohamad Fitri Pauzi, 29, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code with the murder of 43-year-old Bill on June 21 at about 8.20 am at a traffic light intersection, near E-Mart supermarket, Jalan Miri-Bintulu.

The second suspect, Lie Chang Loon, 37, was charged with abetting Mohamad in the murder, under Section 109 of the Penal Code read together with Section 302.

No pleas were recorded from both the accused who appeared calm when the court interpreter read out the charges to them in Malay and Mandarin respectively.

Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles fixed Aug 30 for case mention.

Senior federal counsel Muhamad Iskandar Ahmad appeared for the prosecution while the two accused were represented by lawyer Ranbhir Singh Sangha, with  lawyer Abun Sui representing the victim’s family.

Outside the court, Sarawak CID chief, SAC Dev Kumar M.M.Sree told reporters that four suspects detained earlier were being remanded for 21 days under Section 3 (1) of the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (POCA).

He said police were still looking for three more suspects, still at large including the mastermind of the murder.

All eight suspects who were in lock-up attire had arrived at the court at  8.45 this morning, accompanied by heavily armed policemen and under tight security to prevent any untoward incident. However, two of the suspects were later released unconditionally.

More than 20 police officers including Miri deputy police chief, Supt Stanley Johnathan Ringgit, were monitoring the situation. – Bernama
